I went to Szczyrk in mid February 2004. This town is located in the Beskidy Mountains, south of Poland. At this time of the year it's one of the most popular destination for skiers. I took some pictures in the town and some high up in the hills.

green cottage

One of some lovely cottages, close to the main road

horns

You can buy some traditional goods and handicrafts in this shop

snow cars

I guess these drivers simply gave up fighting with heavy snowfalls...

snowy cemetery

A local cemetery, some of the graves can be hardly seen

icy stream

Mountain streams never freeze

snow and blue sky

Blue sky coming out on the Skrzyczne hills

ski lanes

A paradise for skiers

cottage

A secluded cottage high up in the mountains

Lake Paprocany, Tychy. In winter it's usually frozen so that people can walk across it on foot, or play ice hockey there.

frozen lake

This is how the lake looks in winter

grass

cafe

Fancy a snack here?

pier

The pier and Tychy centre appearing on the horizon

wind

It was quite windy

christmas tree

The sign says "Entrance on the pier only with water sports equipment"

The snow is glowing red as the sun sets

pine

The snow was soft and crunchy on that day

The Blessed Karolina Church in Tychy at night...
