These photographs were taken during my 20km trek in the Sierra Nevada National Park.

I set out in Cumbres Verdes, on the outskirts of Granada at 9am, with the intention of climbing Cerro del Trevenque 2079m (6700 ft) above sea level .

Climbing the first few hills was easy

10am. Looking back at the broad track I have walked so far.

Reaching this point meant great views on both sides as I was now walking along the ridge of Cuerda del Trevenque.

A solitary pine

The path gets narrower and I'm trying to walk faster to leave the chasing clouds behind me.

Trevenque, the peak that I'm going to climb, is in the top right corner.

Walking the ridge, 11:30am

The first piece of snow on my way, 12 o'clock.
I had to walk on all fours up this bit here because it was quite steep and covered with loose stones.
A moment of doubt: how am I going to get downhill here on the way back?

Say 'hola!' every time you pass someone. They are going back now.

Last approach, the peak is a few metres away.

Cerro del Trevenque reached, 12:30pm.
Snow-capped 3000m Sierra peaks in the distance.

Granada, 15km away

Zooming in on Veleta (3394m)

Flying above the clouds

I found a tiny crib between the stones

More views from the peak

The flat horizon of the Mediterranean Sea in the background.
The guidebook says that with excellent weather conditions, it is possible to notice mountains in Africa.

Time to go down now, 1pm.

Sliding down the steep bit was really dangerous

I lost my way and couldn't find the path...

...but eventually found these holes made with walking sticks, 2pm.

Pine cones

Looking back at Trevenque

Same view at 2.30pm. Clouds are getting lower and thicker...

...but blue skies dominate over Granada. 3pm.
